Five more Indian wetlands get Ramsar recognition as wetlands of international importance
- These include three wetlands in Tamil Nadu: Karikili Bird Sanctuary, Pallikaranai Marsh Reserve Forest and Pichavaram Mangrove, Pala wetland in Mizoram and Sakhya Sagar in Madhya Pradesh.
- There are now a total of 54 Ramsar sites in the country.
- Environment Minister Bhupendra Yadav said, the emphasis Prime Minister Narendra Modi has put on environmental protection and conservation has led to a marked improvement in how India treats its wetlands.
